I can totally picture myself running. I know how to dress like a runner. I have all the right music to listen to for a run. What’s really missing from this picture, though, is the fact that I greatly dislike running.
Maybe it’s because I didn’t run around enough outside when I was a child or because exercise was never really emphasized in my home growing up. I did play tennis, ski, and was even part of an aerobics type dance group in elementary school. Despite that, I never learned to enjoy running.
I’m fascinated by running and runners, though. I am amazed at marathon runners, especially. I wish I could love running because someday I want to run a marathon. But not too much into running, I want to bail. I need a drink of water and I feel like my legs are burning. It’s probably because I’m out of shape and my body is not used to running, but even when I used to run in my prime, I hated it.
I signed up for a 5K this weekend and I’m not sure how it’s going to go. I have no doubt that I will finish it, but I wonder if I will be laying on the concrete and dragging my body over the finish line or if I will be standing up.
We shall see.
What exercise do you like to do? Do you like to run?
