Shopping for Good, Shopping for Change

This post was created in partnership with Stonyfield. As always, all opinions and thoughts are my own.

Yesterday, I was standing in the pasta aisle of the grocery store looking for the spirals that I like to use for my mac & cheese recipe. With so many brands to choose from, how do you decide what to buy? I usually opt for what’s on sale, but these days, I’ve also been carefully considering the companies behind the brands and what they are doing to give back.

As a Stonyfield blogger, I was thrilled to hear that Stonyfield is now an official part of the B Corp™ community. I appreciate their continued commitment to being a company that considers their social and environmental impact as well as being a force for good.

But what is a B Corp™ and what does it mean to be certified as one? According to the B Corp™ website, “B Corps are for-profit companies certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.”

There are over 1,600 companies that are now certified as B Corps. I was glad to see that many of the products I use and purchase regularly were already certified B Corps like Preserve, Pukka, Purely Elizabeth, King Arthur, Method and Pete and Gerry’s Organics.

Our wallets can hold a lot of power by impacting how brands run their businesses and by redefining what a successful corporation looks like. We want our companies to do better and be better. When we buy products from B Corps, we can hold them accountable to having better products, doing better for their communities and making our world better. Go check out the B Corp™ site and see if your favorite products have joined the movement!
